Company Overview
On September 9, 1998, United Waste Water Services, Inc., received its ISO 14001 certification. United is the first oil recycling company in the United States to become certified to this ISO 14001 standard, the 10th company in the state of Ohio, and only the 209th company in the United States to become certified. United's certification was confirmed by an independent third party audit with Advanced Waste Management Inc. (AWM).
Currently, there are less than 5,500 companies worldwide that are confirmed to be certified to the ISO 14001 standards as it celebrates its two year anniversary. In today's business climate, with seemingly every company striving to become certified to QS 9000 and/or ISO 9001 standards, what does this certification that United achieved mean to you, the customer? It means that United has conformed to one of the most rigorous environmental management standards in today's regulated industry. It means that each of our employees has a keen understanding of how, in performing their duties at United, they affect the environment and how to minimize this impact through proper safety, health and environmental training. Lastly, it means that as United continues to strive for improvement by being the first oil recycling company in the United States to achieve this standard, we will not change who we are, we will just continue to get better at what we do best- service you, the customer, and ensure that your waste continues to get processed in the most environmentally friendly way each day.
ISO 14001 is an International Environmental Standard, or more specifically, the specification standard that defines the element of an Environmental Management System (EMS). This standard provides the framework for performance improvement, control and regulatory compliance for a company. The ISO 14001 certification is reported to the United States representative, ANSI-RAB, who then reports it to the international headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The ISO 14001 standard is similar in many respects to ISO 9001 in that both have training requirements, document control issues, internal audits and management reviews. However, ISO 9001 specifically addresses the quality of a manufacturing process, whereas ISO 14001 addresses, at an employee level, environmental management standards.
