United
processes material through three possible pre-treatment venues:
• Coolants, waste
oils and oily water are pretreated via chemical means, physical
separation and ultimately ultra-filtration.
• Heavy metal
wash waters, adhesive waters, inks, dyes, and non-oily wastewaters
are pretreated with chemical adjustments, flocculants, and mechanical/physical
separation.
• Leachate
waters from non-hazardous landfills are coarsely filtered and chemically
treated with sodium hypochlorite.
• Solvents
are accepted through a new, proprietary process which allows them
to be accepted as “recyclable products”.
With these four
pre-treatment options, extensive analytical reports are obtained,
reviewed and determined if they meet United's requirements. A waste
profile of the waste in question is then produced, and used to "fingerprint"
each individual wastestream.
Once a non-hazardous
waste material is deemed acceptable and brought back to our facility,
it is pre-treated, and the water is sent to the Cincinnati Metropolitan
Sewer District. Oils are processed on site to qualify for recycling/reuse,
and solid materials are sent to audit-approved landfills as a non-hazardous
special waste.
Any further questions
on our waste treatment systems can be answered by David Weber, United's
Environmental Health and Safety Manager at (513) 733-4666.
