United’s
Middletown plant (Plant III) now houses a solvent recovery program.
United accepts various types of spent solvent into this new facility.
The actual purification process is proprietary, and was specifically
designed by United. No hazardous wastes are generated.
Most companies who use solvents dispose of this material as hazardous
waste. Under United’s process, spent solvent is accepted
as a “recyclable product”. The spent solvent is
not considered to be a waste, either hazardous or non-hazardous.
The acceptance of solvent as a recyclable product is a
huge benefit to generators. Unlike the typical, industry-standard
solvent disposal process, USI’s solvent purification process
involves no 90 day rules, no hazardous waste generator reports to
the EPA, and no large quantity generator rules.
